Remove warning chime on 84 98
Remove warning chime on 84 98
I've removed the all the computer controlled wires, gone with a new carb new Intake new distrubutor. Car runs and drives fine but the annoying chime is relentless. Before I go and rip this thing apart to get to it can anyone give me an easy fix. I checked the haynes manuel and can't find a wiring diagram that has that listed. I need a fuse to take out or a wire to cut preferably. Thanks
Easiest fix is to just unplug the chime module. If I remember correctly, it’s behind the dash, to the left of the steering column. It should be pretty easy to find it with it sounding all the time.
What is the chime sound? There are different chimes for various warnings. The fast pulse is headlight, the slower steady chime is key in the ignition, then the seat belt warning has a different tone. It might be easier to simply fix or unplug whatever is causing the chime. I personally like having the headlight warning, .

Let me know if you would like to sell the warning chime module.
As others have pointed out, the module unplugs from the fuse box, up near the parking brake. You'll need to insert a flat object between the LEFT side of the module to release the tab if I recall correctly, then the module should unplug easily. It's a red module as others have noted.
More than likely the part number is 22515333 but may be different depending on production date.

If you don't have the Y67, the supersession numbers for 22515333 is 22529628, then 22535998, and finally 25524794 and it was over a decade ago when they stopped selling them new.
Mostly factory units were red or tan. Replacements COULD be red/black/tan. Mostly. Seen a couple blue ones over the years. Part numbers should be stamped in ink on the unit somewhere.
It also depends on one option for 84 98s. If you have Y67 (fluid level monitor) it's a different part number. 25531081 superseded to 22527058.

You’re right! I totally forgot about the reminder package/indicators. Would love to add to mine, but it’s already a challenge maintaining with OEM parts, let alone trying to track down stuff the car wasn’t equipped with.
I noticed there’s a whole list of supersession of part numbers, and I’ve often wondered why. They seem to be the same supplier, Lectron, so not sure what the difference is? It seems Buick used the blue and gray modules, especially in the later 80s, and the early 80s modules had external wire connectors.
Great knowledge from the members on this site!
