Rally pak question

I went through the threads about installing a rally pak but of course have questions. It is going in a 70 SX with an original tach. I've attached 2 pic's for reference.

The connector has 7 wires with one blank. The rally pak has 7 plugs where the connector plugs into but the 4th plug is blank. Do I flip the connector around and remove the second wire from the right and plug it into the 4th plug that is currently blank.

Thanks for the help.

Here is a little tech on the subject. Mods may want to pin it as a sticky as this will work on any A Body from '68 - '72.

To install a Rally Pac from idiot lights you need the tic toc tach, gauge pod, sending units for the oil pressure (GM part # 370801) and water temperature (GM part # 1513321) and a brass elbow for the oil sending unit (GM part # 401559) GM has provided the rest within the original wiring harness.

1st remove the idiot light system. On '68 - '69 cars this is achieved by removing the retaining screws and pulling the units out from behind the dash. On '70 - '72 cars everything comes out the front. You need to remove the woodgrain panel screws, panel and retaining screws for the old system.

2nd to install the tic toc tach, you must run a 1.5 amp fused wire from the negative side of the coil to the lower right post on the back of the tach. The other post is for the clock feed. The clock feed is an orange wire located behind the tach location in the dash. Next attach the grey wire for the lights for your tach under the little hex bolt next to he posts on the back of the tach. Now you are ready to bolt the unit to the dash.

3rd the gauge side you need to refer to the plug wiring configuration in my above post. To remove the wires from the 8-pin plug you need a paperclip or small jewelers screwdriver to insert into the front of the plug to depress the little metal prong. Once the prong is depressed, you can then slide the wire out of the back of the plug. After you have removed all of the wires, turn the plug upside down and re-insert them in their proper order by pushing them into the plug from behind until they lock in place. Then simply push the plug in place and secure the gauge cluster to the dash.

4th The water sending unit is located at the front of the intake manifold next to the thermostat housing. You will need to drain some coolant from the radiator to avoid spillage. Remove the wire from the sending unit. Now remove the old sending unit and replace with the new one. Plug in the sending unit wire to the new sending unit.

5th The oil pressure sending unit is located at the front of the engine above the water pump. Remove the wire from the sending unit. Remove the old sending unit, install the brass elbow in its place and screw the new sending unit on top of the brass elbow. Plug in the sending unit wire to the new sending unit.

6th Top off coolant and voila! There you have it Enjoy.

Thanks for the directions on this they were right on time. I should be installing my rally PAC in the next couple of days. Moderators I agree this would be a good sticky.

Forgive me for asking such a stupid question but none of my guages work. Does the rally pak guages come out as one unit or is each one removed separately?

Each one comes out separately. Would have been smart to start a new thread, as this one is 4 years old.

What's the post in the middle above the 2 center posts?
