Powermaster Alternator

I just bought a new alternator through Summit to replace my Delco alternator. I got the Powermaster which is supposed to work with my vehicle, but I'm finding a problem with my mounting brackets. The main problem is that the fan is hitting the bracket. And the way the brackets are situated it's like the alternator is upside down
Can I make the brackets I have work or do I need something totally different?

Well I don't see an alternator so I can't give you any advice.

you bought the powermaster 8002? if so it's a direct replacement for OEM so not sure why it won't mount up the way the old came off - assuming you had the correct OEM bracket set up before.

I have one on my '72 350 and it was a drop in replacement for my internal voltage regulator conversion.

The electrons don't care which end is up. If you took the old alternator off, you know the big end goes up with those brackets. If the Powermaster is a 12SI case, it bolts directly to those brackets with no issue. As noted, a photo showing your problem would get you a more useful answer.

I thought showing the mounting brackets would help.
I have a PWM-7294 it's a GM 12SI internal regulator.
The problem is when I mount it the way my brackets dictate, the fan is hitting the lower bracket that has the adjustable slot for tension.

The photos in Post #3 show you that the lower bracket is close to the fan. Sometimes I've needed to loosen the bolts holding the bracket to the block to reposition it for fan clearance before tightening everything. Also, a photo of your alternator would tell us if the fan on it is different from stock.

Trying to visualize what you are saying in my head...…. Looking the previous provide picture with an alternator, is yours 180 degrees rotated from that picture. ?

You can rotate (or changing the "clocking") on it by undoing the screws and rotating the case. Trying to understand how the fan is hitting the bracket if it is "upside down" but I also never put one on that way.

not sure why your alt fan would hit the bracket - it should clear it with the alt frame bolted tight against the back of the bottom slide bracket - if you rotate it further up the slide bracket without a belt on, does it clear at higher point up the bracket?

I finally got it by putting the adjustment bolt in the slot and then sliding the large attachment point into the bracket, which pulled it down enough to clear the fan

That looks like a ford fan which is slightly larger. Notice inside edge of fan blade having a square section and not straight. Ford has the square and delco doesn't. Looking at the pic you can see the square protrusion on the blade at 5 and 6 o'clock position and no protrusion at 2 and 3 o'clock.
