Power Windows INOP

Hi all, Electrical gremlins are not my strong point. I have a 1970 98 convertible and all the power windows have stopped working. I looked at the fuse block and could not locate a fuse for them. Any suggestions?

Yes. Get a 1970 Fisher Body Service Manual. The power windows are covered in that and not in the chassis service manual.

The first thing you would discover is that the system uses a circuit breaker, not a fuse.

Here is the power window trouble-shooting chart from the 1970 body manual. The full trouble-shooting section is on pages 16-4 through 16-10 in the body manual.

When you turn the key on, power goes through the cct breaker to energize the accessory relay (which clicks when energized) which then sends power to the associated power accessories. No click, no power.

Circuit breaker

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the circuit breaker is located on the firewall?

The service manual says the following:

There are body wiring diagrams in the manual for selected makes and styles, and the closest to your car is this one, which is for Oldsmobile B37 style. B37 was a Delta 88 2-door hardtop. I'm guessing that wiring was similar if not identical between Delta 88 and 98. Look at item #11, which is the only thing that mentions circuit breaker. It's likely located on the firewall in the area near the brake booster.

The breaker on the left is what you would find on the firewall (rubber boot should be covering it) on the right is what would be found on the fuse block. Since these are breakers and not fuses, they are less likely to go bad....I would look at wiring. Especially the drivers door wiring, looking at places where the insulation is cracked or shorting against the car body, there can be a lot of movement in the door wires, causing insulation breaks.

Thanks for the responses. The circuit breaker has 12 volts on both terminals. Does anyone know where the accessory relay is located or what it looks like?

Replied to your PM and then I saw this post. Soo some where near the park brake , either behind the kick panel or above the fuse panel you might find the elusive power relay. I haven't worked on any of that style vehicle yet. I am still an apprentice.
