Possible shorted antenna?
OK my AM radio did not work and now the Kenwood deck I picked up only had sound intermittently and is getting hotter than it should be. What resistance should the antenna have?

I believe if you measure the resistance of the center pin on the antenna connecter to the outer shield you should read an open circuit. If you measure from the center pin to the antenna mast tip, you should read basically a short. Same with the outer side of the antenna connector to the mounting point on the antenna mast.

Frustrating, tape plays still no sound, nothing with the radio either, maybe it is this deck? I tried my other antenna and ran the ground wire right to the battery. Nothing, a radio would be nice.

Different speaker, no dice. Never had so much trouble with stereos. Will a remote amp work, if the internal amp is shot? I may see if the CD player from my boat still works.

By the way, the Tercel is unreal easy to work on. 15 minutes to change both head lights and 5 minutes for the inner door handle. Stupid domestic cars would require half the car stripped down. Reliable and has 350,000 km on it. My 88 had the outer door handle come unhooked, a lot bigger job.
