Petronix Question

A friend is encouraging me to replace my distributor with a Petronix Ignitor when I tune up my 60 Olds in the Spring. He swears by them and has always given good advice. And I like the fact that they're hidden under the old distributor cap.

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of expreriences others have had with these on their Oldsmobiles before I decide which wau tp go.

Thanks,
Mark

Its a great system and gets rid of screwing with the points, plus looks stock. Pay attention to the installation instructions

I used a petronix system before I went to HEI. It works great. As long as you follow the instructions the installation is a breeze.

5 years on mine...perfect.

2 things are important:

1. You need a full 12 volts to the coil

2. use the recommended Pertronix coil

Make sure you get the Pertronix II. Pertronix I sometimes have air gap clearance issues on an Olds distributor though it's more common on 350s. The Pertronix coil is matched to the pickup and works well.

I've had one in my '68 for the past 3 years and it works great. All else is stock (coil, the whole works) except for the Pertonix set-up under the distributor cap.
