Over Excited Fuel Gauge

Kidding about the title. But I am curious, I have what I believe to be the original fuel sending unit and gauge in my 69 Cutlass S. Car had 53,000 miles when I got it. Now it has right around 63,000 miles. I've owned the car for 24 years. I need to know if my memory is poor, but I don't remember the fuel gauge wildly fluctuating when I go around a corner and the fuel sloshes around. I don't remember this at all on any of the cars from back in the day. Was there some form of resistance to the float arm to dampen out those fuel oscillations? I've changed fuel sending units on other cars and never noticed any form of dampening on the arm. What am I missing/forgetting?
Thanks.

The issue is your dash fuel gauge. Your gauge can be repaired and calibrated. Unfortunately, your fuel gauge is an easy task to remove

So the gauge itself does the dampening. Ok, I know what next winters project will be.
Thanks Joe.
