OEM coil question

I need to replace my OEM AC Delco coil on my 71 Cutlass. Every replacement coil I find states must be used with external resistor. Also most state they are an oil filled canister.

Does the OEM Oldsmobile wiring have an external resistor built in?
Can you run an oil filled coil in the stock horizontal OEM position?
Can anyone recommend a stock appearing coil that can be used with the OEM points system?

Thanks in advance.

GM products don't use a ballast resistor, they use resistor wire in it's place. Oil filled coils should be stood up (vertical), so you would want a 1.5 ohm, epoxy filled, 12v coil if you want to mount it horizontallly.

You can use a Pertronix 40111.
