Tractor, motorcycle, truck, go-kart, motor home, car? Make, model & year? Running lights (e.g. parking lights) illuminate?

The brake lights are on the same circuit as the dash lights. I think it was done that way so people would know when their brake lights were not working.

Since Oldsmobile apparently only built 1968-72 A-body cars, we'll ASSUME that's what the OP is talking about...

The brake light switch gets power directly from the fuse box. There is an orange wire that is powered by the 20A STOP HAZ fuse that only feeds the brake light switch and the hazard flashers. If you are not getting 12V on that orange wire at the brake light switch, that's a very short wire to trace back to the fuse box. Figure out why there isn't power on it.

Sorry, but that is not correct, at least not for the 1960s and early 70s cars. Of course, if the OP had told us year an model, we could provide real info instead of guessing.

On the 54 I had the lights were on the same circuit. I haven't checked the 75.

I'm pretty sure the power for the brake light switch runs through the turn signal switch. Probably have a bad turn signal switch.

Once again, look at the wiring diagram before posting. Power FOR the brake light circuit comes directly from the fuse box to the switch on the orange wire. The white wire FROM the brake light switch then runs to the column harness and into the turn signal switch. If there is no power on the orange wire at the brake switch, the problem has NOTHING to do with the turn signal switch.
