Need to replace this thingamawigit in the alternator

Because I can't leave anything alone I took my alternator completly apart so I can make it pretty again. I managed to get it all apart but one piece caved in a little taking it out. What is it and where do I get one? ops:

That's a diode. Used to convert alternating current in the alternator to direct current. These are still readily available at regular auto parts stores. You need to know the correct model of alternator, current rating, and whether this is a positive or negative diode. Bring the old one, natch.

that is the internal capacitor, not a diode. it should also be available at the parts store, they may refer to it as a condenser. it serves to reduce transient spikes, to protect the diodes.

I was going to guess a capacitor but wasn't sure. So I guess the metal can is the part that gets grounded then. That would make sense.
