need help to ID this part

68-442, mounted on the firewall behind the power brake booster. Stamped 40A, looks a little old and in poor shape. Time for a new one, but what is it? Thanks, Ben

It is a circuit breaker. It pops open if top motor draws to much current but closes when it cools off.

Why not? I've turned an absolute junk yard find into a beauty that it once was. Having spent big $ and huge time on all the big important stuff makes me feel good about finding out what all the little things on my car do, what they're called and how and if they work or not. Just because it is functional shouldn't mean don't touch it. I would rather put my efforts into some of the little things like a fuse block than waste time shopping for 30" chrome rims.

Original NOS electrical parts can be hard to find.

New electrical parts are likely made in China, and possibly less reliable.

I avoid replacing good original parts with new questionable parts unless absolutely necessary.
