Arrow Nav lights not flashing

Hi all
The rear port and starboard navigation lights on my land yacht have stopped blinking when the indicators or hazard flashers are operated.

They still come on with the parkers and lights though.

The tail lights flash as they should, as do all the lights at the front that should.
I tried to check the blinker wire connections at the rear but they disappear into the loom.

Before I strip back the loom covering, does anyone have any idea what may be going on here?

Thanks for you replies.

Does the car share a brake / indicator?
If so there is a switch (usually on the column) that makes the indicator override the brake light.

Hi Lazy, i don't think my delta has the switch you are referring to, unless you mean the indicator stalk?

The rear brake lights are still operating as they were in the US, that is, shared brake/indicator. This system still works at the tail lights but not on the rear side lights. They come on with the parking/tail lights, but don't flash with the indicators- with or without the tail lights on.

The front side lights still work fine, that is they flash as indicators regardless whether the lights are on or off.

The rear side marker lights do not flash (not supposed to) as do the front side marker lights. Even todays cars do not flash at side/rear.

Right then, thanks for that mate. That's a worry gone.

I didn't know how they operated before, only noticed the other day they were different to the front side lights. Just assumed..
Note to self, never assume without checking correct operation first..

Let's back up.

Once again, the 1157 bulbs have two filaments with a common ground. One filament is for the tail lights, the other is for the brake/turn lights. The two circuits are completely separate except at the common ground point in the bulbs, so the fact that tail lights work is irrelevant to the brake/turn light problem.

As noted above, the brake light circuit runs from the switch on the brake pedal to the turn signal switch in the steering column. When the turn signal switch is in the straight ahead position, internal contacts pass the brake light circuit through to the brake/turn filaments and both light. When you move the turn signal switch to right or left turn, the contacts on that side "override" the brake light circuit and instead connect the turn signal flasher circuit to the brake/turn filament(s) on that side. The other side remains a pass through of the brake circuit.

The first thing to do is to check the functioning of the turn signals (front and back) both with the headlights on and off. The reason for doing this is that due to the common ground in the bulb, if there is a bad ground at the socket the light circuits will ground through the other filament. The result is all sorts of funny operations, and functionality will change depending on whether the headlight circuit (which powers the tail light filaments) is off or on.

Joe, I presume the flasher does just a double override of the brakes?

And, how come when a bulb goes out that whole side of the turn signal circuit
does not flash?

Let's back up; so he says his rear marker lights (rear nav lights) do not flash...I said they're not supposed to. Time for tea and another biscuit.

Sorry, I was thrown by the term "nav lights". If that means "side marker lights", you are correct.
