LED Bulb Fitment

Has any one found LED bulbs that will fit in the front turn signal sockets and back up light sockets of a 1969 Cutlass. I have tried the bulbs recommended by https://www.superbrightleds.com/ and some Sylvania Bulbs from Advanced Auto and neither will fit in the sockets. The old 1156 & 1157 bulbs taper out from the sockets while all the new LEDs have a shoulder that will block the bulb from engaging.

Thanks Noel

I see what you mean. Are you sure that you have the locking prongs the correct way WRT the socket? On the 1157, one is lower than the other so the bulb goes in only one way (the two filaments are not the same wattage). I can't imagine going to market with a LED design that isn't compatible with the intended sockets.

Yeah, except...... the chineese don't own Oldsmobiles. Most of the LED's that claim that they fit 1157 don't. I learned that one the hard way also.

I found that the LED's I bought for my 72 Supreme tail lights were a little loose. I just melted a little solder on the contacts, then sanded the contacts until they were as tight as I thought they should be.

The problem with the LED turn signal bulbs is the bulb actually bottoms out on the reflector where as the old incandescent bulbs have a taper to clear the reflector. https://www.superbrightleds.com/ recommended their 1157-A27-T bulb for the front turn signals which bottoms out. I am now looking at their 1157-A51-PT which is the same diameter as the socket but longer. It looks like I have the extra room behind my lens to clear it. https://www.superbrightleds.com/ recommend their 1156-CW18-T bulb for the backup lights which does the same thing and I will try their 1156-CW51-PTAC which looks like it will be close in length.

I’m expecting a set of 1157 LEDs to arrive soon. I hope I’m not gonna have this problem. —Billy

I had no problem with the LEDs fitting in my rear tail lights of my 1969, just in the front turn signals and the back up lights.
