Ignition switch

Not sure what is going on with the ignition switch returning to the lock position on my 72 Cutlass. I have the steering wheel off and it appears that the lock pin will line up with the slots in the lock plate but will not extend out far enough to engage. Otherwise the switch seems to function normally. I hate pulling the lock plate it is such a PIA. Any thoughts? By the way it worked fine before going to the body shop. Just wondering if he did something to the switch so he didn't have to keep track of the keys.

I betcha somethings not seated right. My guy rebuilt mine and couldn't get it to turn all the way forward to start the engine, but we had all the other positions. He played with that thing for the longest time and gave up tore it back down and 1 seal in the column wasnt seated correctly. Now it works fine! Sound like yours wasn't tore down all the way though, maybe you just need a new ign switch.I also remember him talking about pulling the Ign switch and repostioning it in the casing forward or backward.but that ended by losing a postion in either direction if that makes any sense, but that was before he tore it all apart again in hopes that would correct the problem.
