Horn Won't work
Horn Won't work
The drivers side horn on my 72 won't work. I removed it, got the screw to turn and if I wire it direct to the battery and smack it with a small hammer, it works a little, but only intermitently.
Just what does turning the screw do? Should I be tightening or loosening or what? Why am I supposed to get it turning?

Make sure its getting a full 12v from the horn relay, and the grounds are good. If ti has trouble working off the battery, it may need to be replaced. The adjustment screw effects the pitch. If you turn it in untill it gets kinda raspy sounding and then back it out until it's clear!

Yes, I think it's shot. I wasn't sure what the screw did, but if it's just tone, then it's shot. The other horn works fine, so I don't suspect the relay, plus, it hardly works whe wired directly to the battery.
Anyone have a drivers side that works they are willing to part with?

The screw is for current adjustment (point gap) - the manual should tell you how to do it and what the current should be (around 5.5A sounds reasonable). Sounds like it just needs replacing if its intermittant. Look on it for the note letter so you get the correct one.
Roughly the same issue. My horn on the 64 88 works about the third the time. I have pulled horns and cleaned them. I hooked them to a power source and they are nice and loud. I want to change the horn relay...( I have cleaned connections but they are eroding)
I have looked for relays and they run about $60.00. Any place that any of you know that has good pricing?
