"Bypass" wire goes to coil. I'm embarassed to say I can't remember which side & don't want to tell you wrong, BUT, I think it goes to + side of coil. See if only one of the nuts is loose on the coil & that must/should be the one. It should be whichever lead DOESN'T go to the distributor. I'v been running HEI's in everything for so long I have forgotten simple details like that. The wire sends a full 12 volts to the coil for more available spark voltage while starting car, then when starter is disengaged coil is powered through lower voltage resistance wire from the ignition switch. As I recall, down at the starter the red heavier wire should be on the "S" (solenoid) terminal, bypass terminal is marked "R" (resistor bypass) iirc. Pathetic how when you have done something so many times you actually forget why or what the details were.

Hope this helps.
