Headlights Work Intermittently

Okay, this should be a "quick one"; I just thought that I would "cover all bases" since I always end up with the weird problems:

The '76 Cutlass Salon has headlights that sometimes will not turn on until I pull-push the **** and turn it to and fro several times. This would seem to be an obvious switch problem, but is there anything else that y'all can think it might be? I ask only because this is now our only dependable vehicle and I don't want my wife to be caught out at night with no lights . . . or worse, have them turn off while she is driving at night.

It most likely is the switch.

It could also be a bad dimmer switch. Next time they don't turn on, cycle the dimmer switch a few times to rule it out.

You could also check for voltage at the dimmer switch if you want to be more precise.

You may be right; the dimmer switch is on the column in our Salon, and it has caused "no lights" problems before. Thank you for reminding me!
