Harness Question

Thinking of putting a reproduction tach in my 71 Supreme, did all factory wiring harnesses come with an electrical tach hook up? Just starting to toy with the idea and wanted to put something other than a dummy plate in the dash while I have it apart. I'm not sure what I'm looking for at the harness end. This is an automatic tranny if that would make any difference.

I don't know, but it no big deal to hook one up. They have four wires one is a ground, one is hot that goes to the fuse box, one is for the light, and the other goes to the dist. if you have HEI, if you have points then it goes to neg. side of the coil.

You only have to add one wire (with a 3A in-line fuse) to connect the tach to the coil.
All the other wires are there. The optional clock's power and light connections should be behind the blank plate - there also connect to the tach.
Some of the wires in the gauge cluster connector will need to be rearranged in the plastic connector, but that's easy to do.
You will need to change the sending units on the engine, also.
There are multiple good threads here on this conversion - you can do it!

Thanks for the info. I was looking at a TIC TOC TAC from GM Sports and thought it might hook up easily without running a lot of extra wiring, ya know- plug and play. Has anyone had any experience with the GM Sports tachs?

Never heard of those, but all tachs should require the same connections - 12V, GND, LIGHTS, and COIL. The COIL one is the only one you would need to add.

I only see the one there that is just tac, no tic-toc?
Do I have the right place?
It comes with everything to hook it up.
I just got a tic-toc for mine, doesn't work, I set it at seven to one and it's the year of the car and the correct time twice a day.

This looks like the one on Ebay. Looks good, I just wish it was a little cheaper.

195 is a bit costly for just a tac with no tic or toc...
Consider twice that amount for a full repro rally pac set! You know you want the gauge set, also, don't ya!

Sorry, you're right. It is just a tach. I had been looking at used tic toc tac's elsewhere and just moshed them together in my brain.

I believe I saw the gauge set in Fusicks for $400, if I remember correctly.
