Fuel gauge not reading correctly
Fuel gauge not reading correctly
On my 68 442, my gas gauge reads 3/4 when actually full. Then when at half a tank it the needle stops at 1/4 and doesn’t go any lower. What does that sound like is going on?
if I drop the tank to replace the sending unit, are there any other parts to replace while I’m in there? Thanks —Billy

Following up on my last message that got no reply: I found out that the fuel send was replaced by the previous owner and didn’t fix the problem. Is the problem usually anything more than the float? If I’m having the tank dropped, should I put a new tank in? Please help. —Billy
You can test the guage travel by grounding it, the gage should go to e or w an open Circuit it should goto past full.
if that works fine maybe you have the wrong sender or thesender cant travel its range because its bent or something is stopping it. The senders have a range of resistance that makes the guage travel its path from f to e if the resistance range is incorrect you will get in correct tank readings
