Cold light in dash stays lit

1962 starfire; cold lite stays lit in dash when engine running or key on. Temp. Sending unit has 2 connectors. 1 wire connected to sending unit and grounded to vacuum advance unit. Hooked another wire to other connector on sending unit and tried grounding it, switching with other wire and lite stays on. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

One connection is for the cold light, the other for the hot light. The sender is grounded via the threads in the manifold.

Try pulling the two pin connector off the sender and see if the light goes out. If so, then the sender is bad. If the light still is on, then you probably have a shorted cold wire to ground somewhere.

Grounding either of the wires will light the appropriate light when the ignition is on.

Cold light stays lit

Thanks;
Tried and light still on. Just a thought before I purchase another sender, there is plumbers Teflon tape around the base where it screws in, do you think that might not let it ground? Appreciate your answer.

Just so we're clear, you disconnected the wires from the sender and the light is still lit? If so, the problem is NOT the sender and replacing it will not fix anything.
