Battery topper

I got myself one of those battery toppers ..actually for a different car but want to use it for my 69 Cutlass since its already paid for ...anyway, I went to a couple of stores to match up the battery and nothing really fits? I did find one battery that fit real nice .....of course it was $200 !! (yea, not happenin) The store folks are of little help since they walk over to the computer and tap keys (like me now) I want a flat sealed type battery, maintenance free is ideal to save battery trays. I have Advance and O'Reilly's ... I would like it to fit kind of snug, the few I did find there was a large gap around the top edge ...clearly hack looking. ( i have a topper like the image)

I ran one of these many years ago before buying a repro AGM battery. I used it because I could use my sealed battery and the price was cheap for just the cover. I don't know of ANY battery it fits closely, but there are still batteries out there it fits. Some have the wrong color cases, some have differently shaped sides or handles or whatever. I wouldn't really sweat it. People who don't know, will think it's real. People who know, or judges, can spot one at 30 feet. I changed my Delco eye to a real eye. That's the real dead give-away on the toppers, not the fit.

topper

I can cut handles off, grind plastic ...paint the case those are non issues, I just don't want the topper looking like an umbrella on top. (saw some at car show ....tacky city) I have an old crown that came with another car and I'm temped to saw the bottom off and slide a battery up in it !

Go on the Legendary Battery Topper web site they list all the dimensions and what fits. I followed this for mine and had no problems fit is pretty good.

Interesting looking topper. Isn't the 'delco eye' supposed to be green to simulate the chemical reaction in the battery?

I think Pep Boys Bosch or a Carquest might fit. The green eye is a common misconception. The clear eye was black when the battery was full, when the acid level dropped the eye turned green. An interesting fact is the eye was always in the second cell from the + terminal. It seemed that was the first one to go low.

I just recently replaced my battery. I bought an Exide, it has a flat top.

I have one of those tops, and took it with me to Napa and just matched a battery to fit the top. Easy.
