Any experience with this vendor?

The alternator on my 83 Regency has given up the ghost. I found a place online (that's actually local to me), that has great deals on alternators. They are less expensive than anywhere else I've found. Money is tight, of course.

http://alternatorpros.com/

They offer really good prices ($69.99) and free shipping. No core charge either. It seems almost too good to be true.

Even a chain parts store unit costs more!

Anyone had any experience with them?

Thanks,
Henry

I've never heard of them. Do they offer a warranty on their product? I ask because the cheap alternators at parts stores usually carry at least a 1 year warranty.

They offer a limited lifetime warranty, with conditions similar to the usual parts stores.

That is cool. Now you have to ask yourself if you buy this alternator, and it dies 6 months from now will you have to pay extra to ship the alternator back to the company to get your warranty fulfilled?

Another option is to find a local alternator/starter rebuilder in the yellow pages, and let them rebuild your original unit w/new parts. Often in the same price catagory as a "cheaper" one from a national chain, and a much better unit that still has the original look.

They are actually a local rebuilder, too. I guess that would mean my alternator can only fail M-F 8-5.

Have you considered going to the wrecker and picking one up? They are the same for 83 84 Regency, 83, 84 Buick Park Avenue, and 83,84, and 85 Deltas and Le Sabre. Check the amp rating on the alt to make sure it matches the load you are putting on yours The big Olds and Buicks were pretty compatible even for some body panels and electrical. Local wreckers here only charge about 15-20 bucks. Swing by the parts store on the way home and have it tested (free). If it's good you're off to the races. Obviously when you pick and choose at the wrecker, look for something that looks new. Preference for cars that were in collisions instead of unknown death.

If only new will do, go with what you can afford, who you can trust, and the best warranty. (personally, I have found that warranties make good toilet paper or fire starter from a lot of vendors)

If you're local (AZ), make the trip across town to Genstar on Glendale and 63rd Ave. See Gary and have your original alternator rebuilt to like new condition. I've used them for over 20 years and never been disappointed!
Be prepared to wait a few days, they're busy but the prices are reasonable.
Good Luck!
