Smile 71 cutlass vert lighting issues

Hopefully someone can help me out.

Headlight switch pulled half way - no park lights, tailights, marker lights, tag light or instrument cluster lights.

Headlight switch pulled fully - no tailights, marker lights, tag light or instrument cluster lights.

Has power on all fuses except instrument cluster (short 4 amp fuse)

I have redone all the grounds and checked all the cable connections

I'm suspecting the headlight switch but maybe something else ?

HELP

^^^Does this mean that you DO have front park lights when the switch is all the way out? A brown with white stripe wire feeds the headlight switch from the TAIL fuse. Everything EXCEPT the headlights is fed from this wire. Inside the switch, this circuit splits. One side comes out to feed the front park (purple wire) and taillights (brown wire, to the turn signal switch). The other side goes through the rheostat and comes out on a green wire that goes back to the fuse panel and feeds the INST fuse. Is there power on the brown/white wire from the fuse panel to the switch? That's the first thing to check.

Joe, thanks for the reply

I don't know what I did but almost everything works now as it should. The only lights that don't come on are the front parking lights when hl switch pulled halfway. Don't really need those. I believe when hl switch is pulled out fully the front parking lights are not supposed to be on anyway.

Again, thanks

The front park lights stay on with the headlights on all cars since the 1967 model year. Yours should too. If they aren't, there's something wrong. If it's a problem inside the switch, it could be a broken internal contact, which eventually could short to power and cause a fire. Fix it if it's not working correctly.
