70 442 Turn Signal Wiring Harness

I tried to hook up my male turn signal wiring harness (on the column) tonight and it won't fit its female counterpart. I think the previous owner told me the column is out of a 71 or 72. My car is a 70. Should I cut both sides off and get a completely different connector or just cut off one side and find a matching half. It's so close to fitting that I might be able to modify both sides slightly and they may fit. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rick

Well my advise would be to try as much as you can to do any modifications to the column side because if you screw it up to much you would just have to replace the turn signal switch which comes with a new harness. You don't want to mess with the dash side to much cause that's a large investment it you have to replace. We just dropped almost $500 today on a having a new fuse block and harness for our 67 442. Also you may look and see if a turn signal switch for the 70 is the same up top but has the different plug. I know when I bought the one for the 67 it had an adapter that went between the column and the dash harness.

The A-body turn signal switch is the same from 1969-1972, so I don't know what column you have. Get a correct 1970 turn signal switch, replace the one in the column, and plug everything together.

Looks like you have an aftermarket universal switch that uses a short adapter harness the fits the switch on one end and the harness on the other end. It's the connector with all black wires in the picture.

Do you know where I can purchase that adapter?

Mine came with the switch. I'm not sure if you can buy it separately. You could buy a new switch and just use the adapter harness and save the rest.

Ordered the switch on Sunday and picked it up at the local Autozone yesterday. Went to the shop this evening and the adapter harness clicked right in. Thanks for saving me from tearing into that column. I still have some repairs to make on some lamp sockets and I need to install the front bumper but at least I have connectivity from the switch to the harness.

Thanks again for the link......Rick
