70 442 convertible top switch

Just performed the top switch replacement job. I was really surprised how fast it went. I read several on-line posts that had me scared - I did it all through the speedo hole and left gauge hole, using a small mirror. Not at all the nightmare I expected. I think I was done in an hour. So whoever posted here the mirror method, cudos to you!

Same with me. I've been putting it off too. Similar reason. My car has AC. Willing to share your experience. Thank you.

I had my mechanic do it last week.Took him about 30-mins..Did the mirror thing..Pulled both speedo and gauge cluster out.The bitch was trying to get the wires unpluged on the switch because they are locked on with snaps..He got it unplugged with two hook screw drivers and finally was able to get to the bottom screw..Then it was easy peasy from there..

I just replaced mine last weekend. I've done it before so it took about 45 minutes. Of course the new switch failed almost immediately after trying it out. Switch works for putting the top down, but "up" does not work. Fusick sent me a replacement. Does anyone know of anyone that rebuilds these switches?

Don't know anyone who rebuilds the switch. I (had to) R&R my switch on my '71 CS convertible. I purchased direct from Hyro-e-lectric. Perfect fit, high quality replacement.

Take the switch apart and see what the contacts look like. You can probably polish them and restore functionality, but since you're taking the switch out, might as well put a new one back in instead of a worn original.

Anyone tried the relay on the top switch method?

Anyone done the top switch with a relay attached? Would love to see a write up of it done. Glad you got it done and it’s working
