Even many cheapo mp3 players put out higher signals than the ipod.

I run my ipod into the AUX-in of my 200lb Magnavox console stereo and I cannot crank it up all that loud. But put on the LPs and it will rock the house and vibrate the concrete floor...

I use the FM transmitter to play my ipod through Lady's sound system - works great. I installed a hidden switched 12V outlet in the glove box to plug the transmitter and ran a cable from it to the ash tray where my nano resides. Totally hidden.
I have seen AM adapters, too, so you can play your ipod through an AM radio.

I rewired it correctly!
One of the previous owners had a CB adapter wired to the radio, and the radio's power antenna lead connected to a FET switch connected to the cigar lighter...
I wish I had known about this odd hookup before I had the radio on and pushed in the lighter... Imagine driving at 40mph with a plume of acrid black smoke emerging from under the dash...

That FET was burned clean off the PC board. As Donald Duck would say with his famous accent, "What a mess...!"
The FM transmitter sounds a lot easier.
That Rube Goldberg set-up would probably start a fire or I'd get done blowed up good.
If I can find the stuff to do it cheap at the flea market I'll be a daredevil and give it a try in an ignorant friends car.
Should just go the other way and get an 8-track recorder and make my own tapes.
I could probably fill the car solid and drag a trailer full of them and still not have anywhere near the songs you could fit on an MP3 player.
I'm just a lonely analog guy in a crowded digital world.
Is that a country song?

I have an 8-track recorder at home but that is also the only working player I have, also...
FM transmitters get a lot of interference. You always seem to be adjusting the station. Has anyone tried this. www.rediscoverradio.com It seems a bit easier. In theory
you could hook up CD players, FM radios (if your radio is not equipped), mp3, Ipod, Sirius, etc. I was thinking of doing a radio conversion, but the limitation on speaker placement made me feel like I was not really preserving the original aesthetics. If the sound is always going to be limited by the original speaker placement, then I might as well give it a try.
