68 442 power windows slooooow

Hi All,
Doing some stuf on my 68 442 conveertible and one of the things is the power windows which are slow. I got to help them up but seem to go down ok. I have replace the front window motors with little improvement and tried to see if anything is binding and seems to be ok. Could the regulators be worn out?? Anybody tackle this issue with any success?? Thanks Steve

Litheum grease on all of the moving parts and guides works wonders for speeding them up and reducing the drag.

X2 on the grease. I usually clean the regulators in the parts washer then re-grease. Pull the motor apart inspect clean grease etc...Inspect the rollers replace as needed.
Slow motors can be caused by a prob with the motor, the ground circuit, the switches, the wiring, and a bad window adjustment. If there's too much resistance anywhere it will slow the motor. Check the grounds and the switches for high resistance. Switches could be dirty or burnt.
You could do a voltage drop test. That will help pin point the problem.
Adjustment plays a part here too. If they are rubbing too hard on one of the window guides that wont help.
Thats why I like to remove the entire assembly(after good notes and pictures). Clean test and re-grease. Install and adjust.

Weak magnets will do that
very tough to fix other than a new motor.

Check voltage across the motor and its current draw.
I believe weak mags cause larger current draw but don't produce torque with that power.

adjustment can help but all of the above is first step. Plus if you installed new window felts they can make it slower too.

Remember that new is NOT equal to perfect.

Can you test the motion of the window w/o the motor in place? See how much load it is offering the motor?

And hopefully new doesnt mean off shore garbage. An AMP probe on the power wire or an inline gauge will spot over load. Another good tool to have. Let us all know what you find. Close the loop on the thread for future searchers. TX!

I have tried to move them manually with the motor out and they seem to move ok. Unfortunately these are not real gm motors. They were given to me as a gift and look well built. I will have to keep a it and see if I can find the problem. Steve
