1970 Cutlass Radio and amp

1970 Cutlass Radio and amp
I have a 1970 Cutlass Supreme with AM/FM Stereo and the separate amp behind the dash, all the numbers shown agree with my car. 03AFM2 and 7312393.
My problem is that during an older restoration long before I got the car the amp was not installed properly behind the dash, it literally fell into the glove box and was not plugged in with the black cable from the radio.
? Has anyone any info on how the amp should be mounted, and how to get behind the dash. (I'm sure it's not fun)
I have Service Manuals and Parts Catalogs covering 1970 Olds from Detroit Iron, but can find nothing in them relating to the amp.

The installation picture is on page 15-4 of the 1970 CSM (Chassis Service Manual). Get a CSM and Fisher Body Service Manual and use them instead of third-party manuals.
The adapter is above the glove box. Instructions for the adapter on the A-body (Cutlass) are on CSM pages 15-3 and -4 and are as follows:
The stereo Receiver and Adapter have identical serial numbers and the units must be kept together for service and installation.
Removal:
1. Disconnect negative battery cable
2. Remove lower L.H. and R.H A/c outlets, if equipped
3. Remove glove box door and glove box
4. Remove tape player, if equipped
5. Remove center A/C manifold, if equipped
6. Remove adapter retaining screw and remove adapter
To install, reverse removal procedure

If your interest is having the radio rebuilt, having it converted inside to modern electronics will eliminate your need for the separate amp - the conversions replace all the original guts and provide upgraded power, sound and features like blue-tooth and other component plug-in options. the internal conversion would likely cost less than restoring the original radio circuitry (and you'd save by not having to restore the original amp as well) and provide more wattage with 4 speaker capability.
there are many vendors performing these conversions, I think at last recollection they were charging about $400 or so for it.
