1968 tail light socket replacement

I'm restoring my tail light harness and replacing my tail light sockets on the 68 and have a question.

Only 2 wire sockets for the lamps are available so the 2nd power wire has to be added. Is it ok to splice and solder the 2nd power wire to the existing wire below the socket base instead of having it attached at the connectors as were the originals? I don't see another way to do it but am just looking for the correct procedure.

If you are talking about the third wire on the driver's side that goes over to the passenger side for the tail lights, the electrons neither know nor care where the copper is connected.

Kinda figured, but better to check than do something stupid. Thanks for the reassurance.
