The wiring diagram will show you where all the color wires go but you won't find connector pictures or diagrams anywhere. If, after you've looked at the wiring diagram, you still have questions you're going to have to take pics of the wires in question and post them.

Also, each connector only fits one thing, generally.
The wire/cable length and form will guide you to the proper item.
The only trouble I could see would be if say the flasher were removed from the harness, and you did not know what went there or where the flasher resides under the dash.
Watch for loose/ broken pins on the gage pods. Much easier to fix with the dash/ gages out.
I have found that a good way to deal with this is to install/ remove the IP [Instrument Panel] as an ASSEMBLY with the wiring all the way to the fusebox all attached. Only a few external things then need attention- park brake wire, under-seat rear feed, and courtesy lights.

Servexcell,
You can find the Chassis Service Manual at www.wildaboutcars.com. The electrical is in Section 12. I sent you the scan of the wiring diagram.

If your wires are no longer in connectors... necessary.
Generally what you find is an unmolested harness or one with 3 or 4 hacks for radio or lighting mods.
That's where your wiring diagram comes in handy.
Most connectors, by far, will be obvious where they go, by the shape, indexing tangs, Absent wire corresponding to absent pin, etc.

White is the ground path to turn on the dome lights.
Orange is the constant hot for dome lights and cigarette lighter.
Usually, the orange is burned because the cigarette lighter malfunctions and shorts.
As it gets hot, it melts the white wire next to it.

A dark brown wire with a single terminal rectangular flat blade connector is for the optional under hood light.
Again, this is spelled out in the Chassis Service Manual wiring diagram.
