NEEDED - 73 Cutlass Wiring Diagram

specifically , I need a Dash/heater control Wiring Diagram.
I could use a complete Wiring Diagram for the entire car.
I did join Wildaboutcars.com but can't seem to be able to figure out how to navigate to wiring diagrams (or any Tech info for tha matter)
Thanks,
Andy

WAC navigation

Andy,
I understand your comment. Until you get used to the WAC navigation aspect it can be tricky.
1. Log in
2. Clik "The Library" tab
3. Clik the "Download Factory Published Materials"
4. Clik Oldsmobile
5. Reference 1973 and you're there

The only bad thing? I'm sorry there are no 1973 CSMs or Assembly manuals. Don't be discouraged though. Kurt is working on the site and trying to grow it, but there are limited # of people doing that. Hopefully the 73 info will show up sooner than later.

In the meantime, maybe someone here has what you need. If not there are on line sales, eg:
http://www.amazon.com/Oldsmobile-Cha.../dp/B001CGJ34U

Fusick also has the 73 Cutlass Assembly Manual for 29.50

.

I bought an assembly manual but there is no wiring digram.
The assy manual for my 70 LeMans has an extensive wiring diagram.
Maybe I'll try to see how similar it is. I looked under the hood on my 72 LeMans and it appears to be different.
I need to know which color wires go to the heater Relay on the firewall.
There are 2 plugs A single wire (orange I think) and a 3 wire plug. 1 wire is missing, 1 is cut and one is there (black w/wht stripe).
And which wire goes to the blower motor and where does it come from.
I was able to get Low, Med. Low and Med. High to work, but no HIGH.
So some progress was made on my own after a couple hours of working on it. I could live with it the way it is but would like to have it working correctley if possible. It could be an issue with the relay itself but I don't know how to check it.

Mitchell shows a brown power wire going to the dash switch ,from the switch it shows a light blue and a yellow wire running to the heater resistor these are the low and medium leads. Then there is a third wire out of the switch that is the high power it goes directly to the fan motor it is a black wire with a orange tracer this wire also has a branch that goes to the blower resistor to supply the blower fan with low and medium when high is not in use.

Allan, Wild About Cars has no manuals for 1973, and the Cutlass was a new body style that year, so the '72 manuals will be close, but may not be right on.

You need to get a '73 chassis service manual. There are several wiring diagrams in the a/c section that I think apply to your car.

You haven't said, but with a 4-position fan speed switch, your car actually has air-conditioning, correct? That's a completely different animal from a heater-only car.

This manual also has complete wiring diagrams, in color, for all of the '73 Oldsmobiles. I wouldn't begin to attempt what you're trying to fix without one of these manuals in front of me. The link that Allan has provided is just what you need. They come up all the time on ebay as well.

The 70 lemans wiring looks very similar just substute the wire colors and it would look the same The black wire on the 70 is the high speed wire to the blower with a jumper to the resistor to carry low and med to the fan when high is not in use the red and the black are the low and the medium and the brown is the power to the switch. The a/c is actuated by the vent control switch not by the blower control. Even today the fan is a seperate control. These things are really simple when looked at seperately from everything else

It was originaly an AC car, the compressor was removed prior to my ownership.
I have a relay on the firewall and I think I have it 1/2 figured out. I think there should be a fuse in the Black with orange stripe that wire (I need to check to see if the fuse is even there anymore)that comes form the junction at the horn relay (which is inboard and below the brake booster) The relay is just inboard of the evaporator (black box that sticks out 12" or so, just inboard of the blowre motor)
I hear the relay click when switching "HIGH" on and off, just no blower.
I found a 73 Service manual on E pray and waiting for a reply on a negotiated price.
Apperaently the 73 IS a bit different from earlier models.
As for the swtich, I have a single orange wir on a singe plug at the bottom of the 4 or 5 wire switch connector.
Maybe I can get a pic of the back or the switch and connector tomorrow.
Thanks
Andy

Firts a question and then an update.
What size fuse (how many amps) goes in the wire from the junction oan the horn relay to the Blower relay.
A fuse holder had been spliced in but seems it had over heated at some point. I could not get the holder apart and wound up breaking it and the fuse that was in it. I Spliced in a Blade type fuse hoder rated ofr 30 amps and put in a 20 amp fuse (since that was the fuse size in the fuse box inside the car.
Update : It works ! the fan now blows on all speeds, including HIGH !
The Defrost doesn't seem to blow very hard but it does blow.
My best guess at which wire went where on the relay must have been correct and I only blew 1 fuse in the process
I'm amazed that it works at all. I replaced the heat/ac control pnael and no idea if the switch was even any good.
Thanks for all the help and advice !
Much appreciated !
Andy

I could be wrong, but I think that High Fan fuse should be 30A.

Glad you fixed it!

Just researched it in previous threads and the ones that mention it D" say 30 amps.
I tested it with a knowingly lower fuse incase of any issues.
I also re-read my last post and it appears that I am a bit Lixdesik. Oy !
Thanks,
Andy
