1966 delta 88 Neutral Safety Switch

Ordered a new neutral safety switch online and noticed that the plugs on it were on the back and the origional one on my car are on the top and a totally different style plug. All the ones I've looked at online have plugs on back, anyone had this issue before with these switches??Cant seem to find one that looks like the origional and don't really want to cutoff and change the origional plugs if I don't have to

It's probably a superseded part number where "fit and function are correct", but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is.

If yours isn't burnt up or physically worn out, I've had good success using electronic contact cleaner on these switches. Spray the cleaner into the switch and work the slide contacts thru their range several times. Check the switch with an ohmmeter in start and backup light sections to verify the cleaner has done its job, and I'll bet you can get some more miles out of your original.

I wouldn't butcher the original plug either. Make up a couple of jumper wires using common insulated terminals and run those from your original plugs to the new switch.

Never can tell, someone on here may have a good original type switch laying around... My guess is many 65-68 GM cars used them since they all had Saginaw steering columns and Delco-Remy neutral start switches.

Thanks for the info,I was thinking of making jumper wires for now if I do plan on using it,wondering if others may have had the same issue when buying a new switch
