1965 98 headlamp switch

Hi was thinking to replace the headlamp switch in my 98 -65 and i can se at Rockauto that they have
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS DS155 , when i look at a swedish sellsite it says that DS155 not fit
large Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. So i,m a little confused . The AC Delco and GM Genuine switch have
been out of stock a long time at Rockauto.

All 1965-66 Olds full size cars without Guidematic auto-dimming headlights used switch P/N 386687. The parts book only shows that application for those two years; there is a different P/N for the A-body cars. DS155 is shown as fitting both A-body and full size. Now, keep in mind that the factory P/N 386687 switch included the ****, and it's very likely that the different P/N for the A-body switch is only because the **** is different and has nothing to do with the actual switch. On the other hand, the listing for DS155 says that it has eight terminals and the factory wiring diagrams only show seven wires to the headlight switch.

Grp 2.485, p/n 1995139, 1964-66 except F85, Toronado or GuideMatic.

If you have GuideMatic p/n is 1995134. I think the other switch can be used in a pinch, you just won't be able to turn the GuideMatic on and off.

If an aftermarket switch crosses to those part numbers it should work.

Check with @mobileparts or @deaddds here on the forums. They may have one.

386687 shows up in 2.486 as "control assy- housing-****-plate-screw-shaft, light switch control".

The numbers I found in 2.485 describe as "switch assy, light control (less **** and control)

Not that the GM parts system would ever make anything confusing...🥴

Good point Glenn. 1995139 is the switch alone, 386687 is the switch and ****. There are several 1995139 switches on ebay. Craig can likely source one also.

And for what it's worth, 1995139 has eight terminals, same as DS155.

Yeah, apparently "control" = "switch" + "****"

Thanks for info both , my 98 have not Guidematic. It,s a little difficult to feel where the parkinglights are in the ****.
The switch in my 88 feels good.I read in a website here that a fire in a -66 98 was starting in the headlight switch
( they belived ) Hmm but i can not se p/n 1995139 in the DS 155 page. But could se several 1995139 on Ebay
as you mentioned Joe.
