1961 98 Instrument Panel Grounds

Does anyone know where the grounds are for my dash are on my 1961 98, without me tearing all the carpet and trim out looking for them? I'm not sure where to begin and I don't want to tear more than i have to out just to find out it was easily accessible. My dash lights don't or stopped working, my clock stopped working and I think that could be why my fuel gauge reads full all the time, and occasionally my floor courtesy lights won't work when I open the door.

I can't tell you where the ground wire if located, but I would start by verifying that it is a ground problem. To do this, get a long piece of 14-gauge wire, and clamp a bare section of one end to the negative battery terminal. Then, with the other end of the wire stripped, touch a part of the dash, such as a mounting screw. If everything now works as it should, it's a good sign. Not all dash components had specific wiring for grounding, but there is nothing stopping you from creating one. It might be as simple as tightening all the dash screws and replacing any that are missing.

After you try the wire that Junkman suggests. If that makes a difference, start by cleaning (sand paper or Scotch-Brite) the negative cable connections from the battery to the engine block. From there go to the strap between the rear of the passenger cylinder head to firewall. The dash is either bolted in or welded in. Your CSM might show additional ground wires under the dash.
