1955 Oldsmobile Neutral Safety Switch Location??

Does anyone know where the neutral safety switch back up light switch is located on a 55 oldsmobile?

Look on the steering column, engine side of the firewall. If it's the same as a 53, it looks like this gizmo:

This is with factory auto transmission; I don't know if manual would vary at all.

A couple things Erinyes. I see a rag joint in your picture. I know a 54 does not have a rag joint since the shaft goes all the way to the steering wheel. I am not sure about a 55 but have always thought it was the same. The other is a manual transmission would not have a neutral safety switch. It might have a backup light switch though. That would probably be very rare since I bet most manual transmission cars were regular 88's and would not have backup lights unless they were ordered as an option.

Red,

You're absolutely right about the manual trans. All I can say is, "Duh." In my defense, I had a rough night with little sleep, and just wasn't really conscious.

The rag joint is due to the original steering column being mated to a 65 Delta 88 front end, with the gear box. I'm pretty sure the neutral safety switch is in the original location, though. It's definitely the 53 switch.

We all have out off days. If that is the worse you do then you ain't doing too bad.

That is the correct location for the switch.
