80's b body exhaust kits

since the body is off the frame and I need new dual exhaust, I was seriously considering this kit from summit, its for 73-77 a body's

it looks like it would work, it has the right looking angles... our rear ends will bolt on each other... what do ya think?

It's a good place to start. You'll still need to break out the welder .. particularly since there's no consideration for cats, but you'd be hard pressed to buy just that much 'universal' tubing and mufflers for that price. You'll need to modify/change the trans cross member to make room for it tho. Let us know how it works out ... my '81 CC needs new pipes too.

A far better place to start is the 2.5" Walker Dynomax dual exhaust kit for the 1990s Caprice. The 1977-1996 B-body cars all use essentially the same frame. The 71-76 cars have a longer wheelbase and different frame.

$921??? and it's cat back instead of $209 for header back. It's fit would need to be a helluva lot better. It is stainless tho.... but why would they aluminize stainless? Something there ain't right

Yeah, you need to learn how to shop. The same kit is $598 from RockAuto. Note that this kit is not stainless, just the mufflers and the tips. By the way, I wasn't suggesting you buy the whole kit. I posted that picture because it has the individual part numbers. Also note that the Summit kit linked above is only 2.25" pipe. The Walker pipes are 2.5".

I personally would buy the head and over-axle pipes separately, use my mufflers of choice, and fabricate extensions to the tail pipes. The two head pipes are $35 each and the two over-axle pipes are $37 each at RockAuto.

Great link Joe thanks for finding it. I looked for the walker kit from 77-88, no dual kits for them years.

Thanks for clearing up about the stainless... that makes more sense. For some reason, I never think of Rock Auto. Autopartsway.ca is usually my go to, and they're usually pretty good on price. Guess I do need to look more. Apples to apples, the cdn Rock Auto price is CAD$673.56. .. but they add another $134 for shipping, Autopartsway.ca adds $5. Still makes Rock Auto the better deal by $150. Summit wants $85 for shipping and duty ... need to make sure that includes the damn brokerage fees too.

Pipe diameter is less of an issue since we'd be doubling the existing no matter what. And while you're right that you could just grab the specific important parts, the kit supplies all the clamps, hangers and other crap that we're all liable to forget only to find the parts store closed for the weekend and the project stalled (hate it when that happens). The Dynomax offered claims 2000 cfm straight through ... yikes. I suppose that would quickly answer the argument about the value of back pressure. Any suggestions concerning that?

I'm looking at the cats on the Rock auto page. What's the likelyhood that the manifold flange on those would be clocked correctly to just bolt up to the olds manifolds? Gives a whole new meaning to the term pipe dream, doesn't it? Gawd, I can't wait for the weather to improve so I can get under there and map this out for myself instead of just looking at pictures.

For the price ya can't beat the summit kit. If I go with the walker kit I'll still need collectors and I'm sure 2 1/4 is big enough for my 350. I'm think I would have 400-500 piecing the walker kit together when its all said and done.
