oil change on a 1962 Dynamic 88

Trying to change the oil on my 62 Dynamic. Where is the oil plug? Is it at the very bottom? Or is it the plug on the side next to the filter? The place where it looks to be where the plug is on the bottom has like a recessed plug looking thing. And it has a star or torx looking shape about 1/2"size. Any advice would be helpful.

That plug is almost flush to the bottom if the oil pan. Just jam a 1/2 inch extension in there hooked up to a ratchet. Done.

There's a special 8-point bit tool for this, but a 1/2" ratchet without an extension will work fine. Extensions always tended to spin in that recess for me.

We've discussed this thing before and someone posted a pic of the tool in that thread if you wanna search around a bit.

Removing the plug near the filter will drain the filter also. Really necessary if you are going to replacing the filter too.

Thanks a lot fellas. Didn't feel like paying 40.00 for an oil change. Much appreciated.

Change the filter everytime you change the oil and fill it with oil before you put it on, cheap insurance!

Had you taken it to a shop for oil change odds are when they saw that drain plug they'd have looked at you and the car like you had just arrived from Mars. That transmission would have probably thrown 'em for a loop too.

"How do you make this car back up?"

"Put it in R, junior, it'll back up."

"Where's R?"

"Pull the stick all the way back."

"I ain't never seen no transmission like that."

It's fun the first few times, then it gets old.

You can replace the plug with something you are familiar with.

Oui, M'sieur Yaros! That's the tool Eddie needs, but the 1/2" drive ratchet will do just as good if he can't find the tool.

The 1/2" ratchet drive will have to do, as I am not letting go of mine.

Back in the 60's I had one for my 1963 Oldsmobile which I ended up throwing away as useless. Took me a long, long time to find a replacement.
