56 olds fuel pump

17 and not familiar with these glass bowl fuel pumps. I can not find a good diagram of the fuel pump in my service manual. Does the line from the tank go to the fitting with the air dome or to the one just over the glass bowl? There wasn't a pump on it when i bought the car.

One from the tank comes from the frame to the front lower fitting on the pump - the upper ones are vacuum and should feed your wipers and your power brake booster (if equipped) - I'll try to grab a photo of the setup tomorrow -

You should post some pics of your car.

The fuel pump should only operate the wipers and wiper washers. The brake booster would get its vacuum from the back of the carb. At least thats how I remember it on my 55....Tedd

tedd you are right. I have the vacuum all worked out. what im wondering is which fuel fitting the rubber line that comes off of the hard line from the frame goes on. Or which one the line to the carb gets hooked to. Im having trouble getting the pump to prime and it is brand new so im trying to double check my work. Pictures of the pump would be awesome.

fuel pump

Olds Dad is correct on the location of the fuel pump gas fitting. but if you need a image or diagram of your fuel pump area go to google and just above the google name is a tool bar that has images as an option. Click on that and enter a search,as in diagram of 1956 fuel pump and vacuum lines .This should get you what you are looking for. Sorry my computer skills are so poor or I would have given you a direct link. I grew up before eaven pocket calculator's were invented.

PS sorry for the slow reply, was away at the Olds Nationals. Great time was had by all.....Tedd

I solved the problem. Turns out the guy who was building the car before i bought it never put an eccentric in it. I went the electric pump route, holley red pump.
