Very nice looking Holiday! A set of Fiesta hubcaps would really make those tires pop. Why is the side view mirror mounted on the fender?

That's a sharp 55. The wide whites make that color combination pop.

It's an aftermarket mirror.

Outside rearview mirrors didn't become standard equipment until the 1960s. If the new car dealer didn't order the extra-cost option outside mirror, or if the buyer didn't want to spring for the cost of an OE mirror plus installation after the sale, every auto parts store sold mirrors and any garage would install them. So, if the owner decided he wanted a mirror, the corner service station would get him one and install it. Sometimes in the factory location, sometimes wherever the owner wanted it or could get the best view with it.

Fender mount on factory mirrors is not uncommon. 63-4 full-size Olds and Pontiac remote mirrors were on the front fender, and a lot of Mopars located them there.

You tell me, I have owned the car 2 months. Everything is original on the car so far as I can tell. I am probably not going to drill new holes for another mirror.

That explains the different mirror placement on so many cars. I have seen them mounted even further out on the fender. Thanks for the input.

Back in the day it was not uncommon to mount aftermarket mirrors on the fender and often it would be a pair of them. The tires with the red rims really make the car pop. Very nice looking 55.

The 1955 Oldsmobile owner manual shows the outside rear view mirror as an accessory. It is pictured on the driver's door. See page 35.

So, it was an option? I have never seen that listed as an option, nor passenger side mirror. Its definitely evident SOMEONE added the mirror to the fender a LONG TIME AGO. Maybe they doc points for it in a National judged event? Fusick sells mirrors, claiming to be correct for either side for '54-56. Anyway, thanks for the feedback on the mirror, but makes no difference to me. Super happy with the Whitewalls, getting lots of thumbs up yesterday on my Sunday cruise.

I have both side mirrors, Left and right, left is original, right is a reproduction, never lost a point at any point's show or concourse for that issue. In fact the right mirror is mounted different from the left, so the image can be seen without the wind wing getting in the way, its' a not to worry issue in my opinion. Nice looking ride you can be proud of... Tedd

Tedd, you are so right in the positioning of the right-hand mirror. When I put the Fusick repro mirrors in the 54 I had, I put the right side in the same position I had the drivers side. Couldn't see squat out of it. Hope all is well with you.
