WIW 1957 98 4dr ht

Looked at a decent 1957 98 4dr ht and wondering what would be a fair price for it?
Info:
gray/ silver w/ tuxedo interior. Chrome header bars (Holiday ?)
bubbling in some areas. No rot seen except for underside of hood lip. Sure some may be hiding. Floors, frame, trunk appear solid. Interior is nice shape, just needs cleaning. p/win work nicely. Has p/brake and steering. Lights work.
New crate 371 engine ...yes old dealer crate engine installed. dont know history of why, but it doesn't have any miles on it. Just stationary run time. 4bbl installed. Not sure if it was a J2 car or not. Assume no.

With minimal effort it could be a driver based on spoken word and visual inspection. Long term plans would be make into a respectable driver, enjoy and then sell to fund my '56 olds project. Need to see if its worth the investment. Checked online and prices are rather scattered.

Need to see if its worth the investment.
Very few classic cars are so valuable that they are worth purchasing as an investment (like real estate). It sounds like a cool car but don't purchase it with the inent of driving it, fixing it up, selling it for a profit and using that money in another project. If you're going to purchase it just purchase it for what it is and enjoy it as long as you can. Who cares if you come out ahead on it?

I have been watching the hamb, Craigslist, and ebay for about a year focused on four door olds. Sadly the four door models don't seem to pull the same $ as their 2 door versions. However if that really does have a new 371 it sounds like a great candidate for a driver, and makes that car worth more.

I would pay $7-10k for what you described. I agree with Olds64: don't expect to flip the 4 door as an investment...if it were a 2 door holiday then it would be in the $15k range I think. Buy it, drive it, and enjoy it.

I hope that helps. Good luck with it!

Good replies. The 4 dr -investment thing is low. However, if the price is right, I may go for it and use it as a driver. Not going to restore it, just make it road worthy and clean it up.

That's too bad the original deal fell through. Let us know if you spring for the Olds.
