wheels and tires sizes 71-76

I'm looking at putting wider rear tires on my 76 delta 88. Anyone have any experence on what fits? width profile and backspacing? I'm willing to step up to a wider rim and or different backspacing, if neccesary but, would like to use a 15 inch steel rim so i can keep my stock hubcaps.

I'm currently restoring my '75 Olds Delta. I looked at many different sizes but also wanted to keep the wire wheel hubcaps. In the end, I went with 15x8 all the way round with 4" backstop. They fit nicely in the wells with no interference.

I am interested in doing the same thing. Could you post some pics Snowri so we can all get a visual. Thanks.

Thanks Snowri, I'm guessing something like a 255/75r15 on the back?

I believe Oldsguy had 255/75 R 15s on his 69 Delta 88. The good thing about a B body is that they don't have fender skirts in the back so you don't have to worry about tight spaces. Hopefully Oldsguy will post in a day or two.

Big Meats

I put 275/60/16's on all 4 corners of my 69 Delta. Fit great and look awesome. The wider tire fits the size of the car much better than the OEM 225's. I might have been able to go even bigger

I went with the Indy 500 Firestones on AR wheels and am very pleased.

To estimate fit and backspacing issues you may encounter, check out this site. I found it terrific to help me plan. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Bigger Tires

I reread your note. If using original steel wheels make sure the new wider tires will fit on the wheel themselves. The OEM wheels are relatively narrow as I recall and will limit your choices as to how wide you can go with the new tires. Good luck and post back what you decide.
