what kind of dual exhaust did you use
what kind of dual exhaust did you use
The next step on my 69 delta 88 wil be a set of duals.
I know there is a dificult with the driverside exhaust manifold.
I run a singel that i borowed of the 350 engine and did make it fit to my 455 engine.
I know there are several type's manifolds.
As the thornton replica's.
But did anyone with a Fulsize from 65 and up put aftermarked headers?
And solved the steering problem?
My problem would be to purchase 1 left and 1 right manifold becouse they deliver more to the A Body owners
now i'm curious how you manage to put the duals on.

They produced the B-body cars with factory dual exhaust, you are going to need both side factory dual exhaust manifolds. The steering box location and rear mounted steering gear are the problems, and I don't recall ever seeing headers for one of these cars. If you do find someone that manufactures them, let me know, I want a pair as well. Oh yeah, you can use you're current manifolds, but the exhaust flow and exhaust piping won't be the best.
The only way to get headers for your car would be to make them yourself. Nobody makes headers for these as they aren't popular.
As we have already recommeneded. Get a drivers side manifold from Thorton, plug the passanger side crossover port and install the pipes. Don't make it complicated. Just do it the same way the factory did.

problem is,
I have to buy a passengerside one to.
otherwise i have one from the 350 and one 455 dual type header.
And strange thing is, supliers like Summit are selling headers ment for a 88 delta.
But a whole lot of people saying otherwise.
And it is cheaper to buy a set of headers than 2 factory look replacments.
that's the idee of this tread,
if someone solved this issieu or tried to

The passanger side 350 or the 455 passanger side will work fine. the 350 manifold is just slightly smaller inner diameter and a touch shorter where the pipe bolts on. I have a smallblock passanger side manifold on my 425BB and it works fine.
Those headers don't fit I know first hand cause I got some to try.

No you don't run the cross pipe when running duels.
The difference in size is very small and only noticable when you put them side by side. I have been running with one for a few weeks now & noticed no difference. I am not racing the car though.

I don't eather
I would asume as a v8 ( 2 times 4 seperat) that it would develop a stress point if the left 4 works easier then the right 4.
But if the difference is to small to notice,
But i can be wrong about it, I am a rookie in this

if you don't have a big cam with a after market 4 barrel and had the heads ported it will not make any difference what right manifold you have. If you want dual pipes done right buy the correct left manifold there is NO other solution and you do not need a cross over or x pipe.
I would actually love to try and put a steering rack in a 60's B-body Olds. You would have to find spindles that would work and fab another steering shaft. If you could pull this off, you could theoretically have room for headers and have a much quicker steering ratio to boot! I have an excellent fab/chassis guy here in town so I may have to consult with him!
Before i went to wrench on a my Oldsmobile i was in the suzuki 4x4 thing.
And i know how inventive people are to vind solutions on such stuff.
people making them own powersteering or setup swaps etc.
And i'm with olds64, also qurious on such project's.
And nothing wrong with the replica manifolds, If there is no other solution
But if i can get with minor changes a header type exhaust mounted, il have less money spent and more power to gain.

I'm having a hard time understanding why you are reluctant to go with a reproduction manifold and keep the car looking like it did from factory.
Modifying the steering system and installing headers isn't going to be cheaper than a $229.99 reproduction drivers side manifold from Thorton!
Considering you haven't installed a cam or made any considerable modifications to the engine you aren't likely to even notice any real difference with headers. You will however see a large increase in headaches due to loosening bolts and possible cracks in the header over time.

There is nothing wrong of the replica one.
But if there is any chance of putting headers i refer to that.
Simpely they are beter flowing and maybe also in stainless.
Regardles on the headers, i would like to put some stainles duals with normal walker or proflow dampers but nothing to loud on it.
I know there is a minor chainge in sound but i never have to look at it again.
And in aperience i like the headers more than stock.
As fot the 455, it is a new rebuild with no brutal cam, with performer intake and performer carb.
Compresion i don't know, automatic th400 but it burn tires if i want to
Reasen why this thread, look at the diskbrake thread it helped me in what i want in the future with my delta.
Simply i got a 69'delta 88 with discs on the front, but no replacments
Second, i live in the netherlands, so i could not return parts if it doesn't fit.

Headers are awsome, but stainless headers and exhaust will be very expensive. I have thermal coated headers and aluminized pipes on my car and it cost quite a bit. If you aren't using the car as a daily driver you should be fine without going to stainless.
It is a bit more expensive, but it last forever.
It costs a 1500 euro's to mount duals in stainless.
There is a exhaust company that makes them. custom made
They have all the machines to bent and widening the ends. in stead of welding.
How are the ceramic headers? mine i bolted on a suzuki went from shiney to a brownisch collor. Maybe becouse of the mud i drove it trough

Everything is a little more expensive over here
And buying in the states costs me sendingcosts and Dutch taxes ( only when buying out of europe)
It is going to be all mandrell bent, so no welding.
I want the joint's the same as original with clamps.
I could weld it my selve and get it cheaper.
But i like that i can remove the parts by just removing the clamps.
Nice that the thermal headers stay shiny, as i rever i used it on a 4x4 and it runed to a brown collor over time
second reasen of using headers off stainless or ceramic, it's not getting that hot anymore under the hood, and lesser heat is more power.
Saw different type of solutions on that and i liked the ceramic coatings.
If i go with repro olds manifolds

I just tried to buy me the fullsize header to put on my 455.
They don't ship to europe
Asked them politly if i just could pay for it and for the shipping.
answer is No!

So now my question, i realy want to put duals.
So if anybody having a spare or is living close to the moter company who sells the replica's pleace let me know.
Without a nice header i can't put duals.
So if anyone gonna buy a header with these guy's let me know maybe we could arrange something

I tried this company, http://www.themotorcompany.com/Full-...d-p-16158.html
As we were talking about in my other tread of changing the 350 for a 455.
As we were talking about in my other tread of changing the 350 for a 455.
That was my first intention.
Looked at my free space left between the exhaust and steering.
And it seems that the thornton is the only simpel way to go with my 1969 88.
I hope i get a replay on my mail i sent to thornton.
maybe ik can order with them.
Shipping outside the US looks to be the problem i run in to.

I asked Thornton.
They will ship to the Netherlands.
This is thornton site!
http://www.thorntonmusclecars.com/
is a differend link as the other in my 350/455 thread.
No this time no headers,
It is a great risk it doesn't fit, and it is expencive if i return it.
(international shipping)
could maybe the headers build for me, but it is expensive.
And do not want to change the 88 fore fitting a header.
