Vin #

Hello I trying to find the vin# on my car I think its a 63 oldsmobile dynamic 88 i cant find the vin location. any help would be great thanks.

When you open the drivers door, it shoud be inside, on the cowl, above the hinges.
I've only seen them above that, on the drivers roof piller, on tri-5 chevys.
If you see evidence of 2 rivets, it probably fell off - the rivets corrode!!

Talking 1963 Full Size & F-85 VIN, Engine, Trans & Rear Axle info

*Vehicle Identification Number is on Left Front Door Pillar for 1963
1st 2 numbers = year
3rd number is Series: 0=F-85 Standard 30 series/ 1= F-85 Deluxe 31 series/ 2= 88 32 series/ 5= Super 88 35 series/ 6= Starfire 36 series/ 8= 98 38 series/ 9= 98 series
4th is LETTER for Assembly Plant: M= Lansing, MI/ A= Atlanta, GA/ K= Kansas City, KS/ L= Linden, NJ/ C= South Gate, CA/ W= Wilmington, DE/ T= Arlington, TX
Following Numbers are Vehicle Unit Number

*ENGINE Unit Number for Full Size Olds is Stamped on Left Cylinder Head
F-85 Series is Stamped on Front of Right Cylinder Head

*Full Size Olds Hydra-Matic TRANS is attached to Left Side of Trans Case (L after Ratio Number Anti-Spin)
O on Black Plate: 2BC Lo Comp & Export 32 series
OC on Aluminum Plate: 2BC Std Comp 32 series
OA on Dark Brown Plate: 4BC Std Comp 32, 35 & 38 series
OB on Yellow Plate: 4BC Std Comp 36 & 39 series
OCH on Taffy Tan Plate is HD: 2 & 4BC All Except 36 & 39 series

*F-85 HYDRA-MATIC TRANS Serial Number Plate is on Right Side Trans Case
O on Dark Green Plate: 2BC Steering Column Shift (SCS) 30 & 31 series
OD on Red Plate: 4BC (SCS) 31 series
OE on Pink Plate: 4BC Console Shift (CS) 31 series
OX on Aluminum Plate: Turbo-Rocket (CS) 3147 series

*REAR AXLE RATIOS

how do I decode vin on a 1956 olds and will it tell me if it is a fourspeed hydromatic or the later jeteway

And no it won't tell you trans or engine data, just year, make, model, plant and serial #
Cowl tag will tell you a bit more such as body & interior color(s) and style then an accessory or two.
