Replacing timing chain cover gasket...WARNINGS?
The timing chain cover gasket on my 64 dynamic 88 w/AC needs replacement.
I have been reading up on the process and it notes I have to tilt/lift engine to gain access. Question: what concern should I have with the tranny and do I have to drop tranny..A lot of work for a $10.00 gasket but needs to get .
Any directives would be appreciated.

Hi Navvet, what I would do is undo the front mount and place a piece of wood on the pan and lift it up enough to shim underneath with a piece of wood as to spread the weight out over and not push the pan in.The drive shaft stay's in and the transmission will go as high as the fire wall and this will give you the clearance you need. If you push the pan in the crank shaft will hit it (ask me how I know) then you can remove the timing chain cover, I would also do the water pump and rebuild the fuel pump to take the crappy gas while it's off and replace the front crankshaft seal. I'm pulling the engine out of my 63 98 custom sport coupe next week to replace the seals and gaskets.
