quarter mile time of a '65 Delta?

Hey,

can anyone take a good guess how fast/slow a 65 Delta with the 425cui (HC) engine will go?
I don't wanna try it with my recently bought one, I just wanna know, b/c I talked with a friend about it ... And we were asking ourselves if it can outperform a Toyota Prius or a 09 Mazda MX-5...

Thanks guys!

I would think it would outrun them. You could do a rough guestimate with power and weight plugged into a calculator.

Lightbulb

I used to race a 65 delta 88 at suffolk raceway in Va. it had a 330 cid engine automatic trans single exhaust open no muffler 4bbl carb. It would eat up ram air 351 mustangs it ran in the low 15's. actual experience for you I would think the 425 would get into the 14's.

The 65 to 70 88s were the 6th generation 88s the available engines were initially the 330 and 425 followed by the 350 and 455

Well if your eperience was with Oldsmobiles we would not be having this discussion. From the factory the 65 Delta could NOT have come with a 330. The 330 was available in the Cutlass series and the Jetstar 88, NEVER the DELTA 88.

I too have over 40 years experience and that is with Oldsmobies....

Car Life Magazine tested a 2 barrel 425 Delta in 1965 and came up with a 17.1 quarter mile time @ 82 MPH.

I don't know about those particular cars, or about the quarter mile times, but I believe that a Honda Sienna minivan will do 0-60 in about 7 or 7.5 seconds, which, I believe, will beat almost any stock '60s Olds (except some of the real high performance models).

This seems about right -- in the early 80s I drove a '65 Dynamic 88 with a 425 HC/2v.
