New olds owner

I just bought a 1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 2dr coupe. So far i have seen that it came with a 394 cu motor. How do I go about seeing if it has the original motor? Where would the engine code be at on the block? i'm guessing that the bolt pattern is 5x5?

I'm not sure about the number location, but the wheels are 5 on 5. You might also find some LH threads on the LH lug bolts--mine had 3 on the front and two on the back. I suppose the other five had already been broken off and replaced. . .

Not really easy to tell if engine is original since they have no VIN derivative on them anywhere. Look on the driver side head, right above the exhaust manifold center ports and you'll see a number stamped into a machined pad. The first letter should be an H or J, then the engine serial number (it will not match the car VIN), then export low compression and Starfire engines have a suffix letter.

About the best you could do would be to see if the engine build date code is close to and ahead of the car's build date.
