My neighbor had a 1969 olds 88, it was a green 4 door with I believe a white painted top, I don't think it was vinyl (Is this possible or is my mind playing tricks on me?). I think it was a "custom" model. Us kids used to play in it as it sat outside for years. When I was 15 (this was back in 1986) the junkman came to tow it away but my brother stopped the tow truck driver and asked our neighbor if he could have the car. The neighbor made the tow truck driver give it to us and the driver dropped it off down at our house. My brother couldn't get it started. But a friend of mine, who died young a few years afterwards, and I got it running and we ended up driving it around the block. Since it was so rusted out, I ended up taking the car apart. I should have kept it together! I did manage to save the engine and trans (455, 2 barrel, type C heads and turbo 400 trans) and 22 years later I still have them in my basement. Eventually I will have it rebuilt!

A couple years ago I ended up seeing a similiar, low mileage hardtop for sale on ebay. No one bought it. I emailed the guy and told him I would buy the car over time if he would let me. He said ok so every now and then I would send him a check. Eventually I got the car. I ended up selling it about a year and half ago to pay for my wife's engagement ring.

Now I'm back, hoping to find a good clean original, 4 door hardtop like the ones that got away!
