60' 88 Smoking from below, random open pipe?

Having some leaks from below the car. I believe my pan is leaking maybe output shaft? And also was getting some smoke below, maybe from this open pipe I have no idea what this is, I've never seen anything like it before. Was getting dark so couldn't figure out where it lead to. Any ideas? Also was wondering what transmission oil you guys recommend when I do drop the pan to replace the gasket.

Seal I was going to order:

Pan Gasket:

Thanks guys!

Raj

That tube you are speaking of is the downdraft tube that ventilated the crankcase. There were no PCV valves in 1960 and crankcase fumes were directed down to the stream under the car into the atmosphere. The PCV valve was the first piece of pollution equipment installed on automobiles. I am not sure of the exact year they started but it was around 1962 or 63. I am sure somebody on here will let us know.

That is the breather pipe, if it is smoking from there, you may have a tired engine, could be rings or blowby.

Definitely a tired engine, 90k miles she's a bit smokey, gotta run a compression test and get some more info. Is there anyway to convert this into a pcv setup?

I am pretty sure there have been some threads on here about converting to a PVC. Use the search option and see what you can find. You are probably getting a little blowby out the oil filler car also.

As far as transmission , use Dexron III / Mercon fluid .
