55 Wiper conversion

Does anyone know the source of a wiper conversion for a 55 88? I'm looking for a complete replacement to get rid of not only the vacuum motor, but the cable driven arms also. Thanks

The only one I've seen mentioned here is the Newport unit. Do a forum search in the Vintage forum using "Newport Wipers" to get details. Here's the company

This is only the motor as I understand it, and it still uses the stock cable system to move the wiper arms.

Thanks. Yeah, I knew about the Newport conversion motors, but the cables weren't too good, even when they were new. Was wondering about something like what Pacific Western Design has for Tri-five Chevies. The firewalls are quite similar, so that might work?

Possibly, with a little additional modification. But I really have no idea and don't want to lead you astray. You may want to try to PM Tedd Thompson as he's probably one of the most knowledgeable here on all things wiper-related.

Don't know about most knowledgeable, mostly just made more mistakes that I had to fix.

Unless your cables and pulleys are really shot or even if they are I would just replace repair them them and go with the Newport system. That a lot easier , it works good and you wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel....Just my thoughts ...Tedd
