My 85 Delta 88 has a hard time turning over, even in 90* heat.

OK this car isn't driven every day and at times it will sit for a week. I pump the gas pedal 4 times and crank it and it doesn't turn over. I stop and pump again and it still doesn't turn over. The 3rd time I pump and crank and it still doesn't turn over, but I start pumping the gas pedal again and still has a hard time, but does turn over.

I know carb'ed cars are like this in the winter, but in the summer? I was going to change the fuel filter anyway. Could that be my problem? My old Delta didn't do this with the 307

Usually, I'll drive the car to work one day a week, this is what happenes when I start it up in front of my apartment, but when I leave work, no problems turning it over. Starts right up

 

I am thinking the fuel leaks out of the float bowl after a week or so.
My 86 has a similar behavior, maybe not as bad as yours.
I pump the pedal once to se the choke, crank for about 6 seconds, stop, pump about 3 times and it will usually catch. It will take a little extra if it sits for months or even a year.

my 307 does the same thing like Rob said its the float.........pretty sure its normal

 

That's typical of a Q-jet. My 69' fires up with one pump and just touch the key, but that's, because i've been driving her everyday since I got the motor back in. A holley street avenger can sit for a month at a time and still fire up with 1-2 pumps and a couple cranks. My 85" GMC and my dad's 69' GTO both have the 570 CFM street avenger and start all the time. Good carb but pricey at about 350-400 bucks I believe

 

If it's not turning over, maybe check your battery?

 

New battery, replaced in April

It's a very strong crank, just takes a while to kick over

 

It cranks and turns over, it just won't fire up. At least thats how I am judging it...
